Sedona
We enjoyed exploring the eye-catching and vast red rocks of Sedona in late March of 2023. We spent most of our time hiking, as there are so many great hikes! Sedona itself is a quirky place with touristy knick knack shops, so we preferred staying out on the trails.
Arizona, USA
SEE/ DO
-
Chapel of the Holy Cross (a stunning church built into the red rocks. You can even go inside.)
-
Devil's Bridge (4.2 mi round trip, easy. This is a dusty trail, but is worth while!)
-
Cathedral Rock (3.5 mi round trip, moderate difficulty)
-
Bell Rock
-
Long Canyon Trail to Birthing Cave
-
Subway Cave (7.3 mi round trip, moderate. This is not a well marked hike. Hiking here can be dangerous when wet and requires some rock scrambling at the end. We thought it was cool, but attempt this adventure at your own risk.)
-
Watercolor class at the Enchantment Resort
-
Pink Jeep Tour to Munds Wagon Trail / Merry Go Round Rock (We did the 2.5 hour Scenic Rim Tour. It can be hiked, but is very rocky and we were honestly thankful to have hitched a ride on a jeep instead, although it's a super bumpy ride!)
-
Sedona Airport Scenic Lookout at Sunset (A great view of the whole city and surrounding rocks)
EAT
Enchantment Resort
-
Hummingbird (breakfast, lunch and AMAZING Smoothies. The best smoothie I have had in my life was the C Boost cherry pistachio berry vanilla smoothie!)
-
Che Ah Chi (SW American)
-
Tii Gavo (must reserve the fire pit if you want to sit there.)
Other
-
Sedonuts (Clever branding and good donuts!)
-
Cucina Rustica (Tuscan)
-
Elote Cafe (Modern Mexican cuisine. Need reservations several months in advance OR you can call right when their phones open for a limited amount of takeout orders. We had to call 10 times to get through, but it was delicious!)
-
Pisa Lisa (wood fired pizza)
-
Dahl & Di Luca Ristorante Italiano
-
Coffee Pot Restaurant (breakfast)
-
Mariposa (we discovered sweet drop peruvian peppers here and are hooked!)
-
Cress on Oak Creek at L'Auverge de Sedona (Farm-to-table breakfast, lovely location)
STAY
-
We stayed at the Enchantment Resort, which was a very quiet and luxurious resort with good food options and recreation options. They had a great recreation information center to help you map out your hikes, etc. We would recommend this resort to others.
Tips
-
Sedona is about a 2 hour drive from the Phoenix airport or Sedona has a small airport. We usually opt for the convenience, but it must not have made sense for how much the trip would be extended with layover time.
-
Don't let the fact that you are in Arizona fool you...Sedona is at a high elevation, so it was quite cold in late march. Most photos of me were in the one hat and jacket I packed.
-
Hiking early helps with finding parking and seeing that beautiful morning sun glow on the red rocks.
-
Some hikes have shuttles available.
-
Traffic through town can be quite slow.
-
Be aware of where you are staying in relation to the hikes you want to do.
